Page & Salt is made by one person. Write to hello@forestocean.app and you will reach him directly.
What the app does
Page & Salt is a library for the cookbooks you already own. You add the books on your shelf, and readers index them a recipe at a time — the title, the page it is on, how long it takes, what goes in it. That index is shared, so a book someone else has indexed arrives ready to search.
The method is not in the app, and will not be. Page & Salt tells you which book and which page; the cooking happens with the book open in front of you.
Alongside that is a cooking journal — what you made, when, what you thought. That part is yours alone.
Reporting something in the catalogue
The catalogue is built by readers, which means it occasionally contains something wrong, something in the wrong place, or something that should not be there at all.
Write to hello@forestocean.app if you find:
- A cover photograph that is offensive, unrelated to the book, or should not have been shared.
- A book record that is inaccurate, duplicated, or attached to the wrong edition.
- Recipe method text or a photograph from inside a book — neither belongs in the catalogue, and both are removed on sight.
- A reader behaving abusively through what they contribute.
- Anything that infringes your copyright or another right you hold.
Reports are read by a person, usually within a day or two, and acted on. Tell me which book, and what is wrong with it. If you are reporting on behalf of a publisher or author, say so.
Common questions
Where is my library kept
In your own iCloud. Delete the app and reinstall it, and your shelf and your journal come back, on any device signed in to the same Apple Account. Nobody else can read it, including me.
My book has no recipes in it
Then nobody has indexed that edition yet. This is normal, and it is an invitation rather than a fault — you can index it yourself, and the next person who owns it will find your work waiting.
Why does the edition matter
Because a page number is only true for one edition. The 1997 and 2019 printings of the same book are separate records, so that a page reference is never a guess.
Can I change my handle
Once. Your handle carries your contribution credit, and a name that keeps moving stops meaning anything.
Does it work without a signal
Yes. Your shelf, your recipes and your journal read and write offline. Anything that needs the network catches up when you reconnect.
Does it cost anything
Page & Salt is free during testing.
